Rob Moore – Landmarks
‘Landmarks’ is a show about places, spaces and elements. A body of new lyrical work in which Rob Moore explores feelings of apprehension and awe in relation to brushes with familiar and unfamiliar landscapes.
Centering on a renewed interest in the landscape ‘Landmarks’ is largely devoid of colour, a series of large scale experimental drawings executed with black indian ink. Although not bleak the work often suggests a threat or an ominous presence situated in the environments from which it is sourced.
Events may include a short heavy storm, an impenetrable wood or some other small drama experienced on the many walks taken by Rob. In these drawings he both suggests journeys and, at at the same time begins a new creative journey using a sense of place as a starting point.
The work has been described as “brave” by professor Anne Grebby. Rob reflects, “I imagine that she means that to work on this scale with the unforgiving media of indian ink is somewhat risky. Well maybe it is. I certainly like to keep my ideas and working processes alive and moving, an approach which is also evident in the restless nature of the images and marks. Like a walk sometimes can be, the current work is meandering and the destination not yet in view. Travelling is interesting”.
